How to play Table Tennis

Read the aim of Table Tennis, then make your first move. Reach eleven points with a two-point lead. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Use the example below to understand a decision.

rally/service model, win-by-two and alternating deuce service.

Make the controls familiar

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your goal

Reach eleven points with a two-point lead. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

Step by step

  1. Serve.
  2. Move the lower paddle under the ball.
  3. Hit after the bounce near your baseline.
  4. A missed return gives a point.

Controls

Pointer/paddle buttons; Hit / return; Space serves or hits. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

A useful example

An early hit is rejected; wait while positioning the paddle. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Keep the controls nearby.

Watch out for this

The ball-flight model is timing-based, not full tournament physics. Check the rule before repeating the action. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
