How to play Pyramid Solitaire

Open Pyramid Solitaire, check the instructions and begin a round. Remove all 28 pyramid cards. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Pyramid, stock and waste; one stock recycle. Free solo play, no wagering.

Build a steady rhythm

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your goal

Remove all 28 pyramid cards. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Start with a deliberate move.

Step by step

  1. Only uncovered cards are selectable. Pairs total 13; a king removes alone.
  2. Click an exposed card or eligible pair to remove it.
  3. Draw when useful.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Use the visible help when you are unsure of the next input.

A useful example

An exposed queen pairs with an ace; a jack pairs with a 2. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Look for the relevant detail.

Watch out for this

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Compare the situation with the worked example. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
